The Tennessee State volleyball team dropped a close first set then could not overcome a proficient attack from Lindenwood as they fell in three sets (24-26, 15-25, 21-25) in OVC action from Kean Hall. The loss dropped TSU’s record to 2-21 overall and 2-11 in OVC play.
A double-double led the Tigers from Celestial Miller, who registered her fourth double-double in her last five matches, ten kills and 12 digs on the day. Jayla Holcombe added eight kills to help the attack. Alanys Oterohelped the attack with a game-high 29 assists. On the defensive end, Celianiz Cabranes chipped in with a match-high 20 digs to go with three blocks from Holcombe.

How It Happened
SET 1 | 24-26 Lions Squeak Past the Tigers
The Tigers fell in a back-and-forth first set, losing 26-24 in a game that featured seven lead changes and was tied 11 times. Neither team led by more than four points in the match. TSU started the set, scoring the first four points. Two 5-1 runs gave Lindenwood the lead at the media break at 15-12. The Lions were swinging at a .353 clip before the timeout. The Tigers then went on a 4-0 run to take the lead. The Tigers had the first set point at 24-23 but couldn’t close the set out, as the Lions scored the final three points. Lindenwood had three aces in the set. The Tigers had 24 digs in the with Cabranes scooping up ten.
SET 2 | 15-25 Slow Start Dooms Tigers
Tennessee State then lost the second set 25-15 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. TSU trailed by as many as 10 points as Lindenwood grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set tied up just once before the Lions took over the lead. The Lions started the set on a 9-1 run and never looked back. Miller had four kills for TSU in the set, and Alondrah Santana-Rodriguez added three. Lindenwood had a .355 hitting percentage in the set, forced seven TSU errors, and had five aces.
SET 3 | 21-25 Comeback Comes Up Short
Tennessee State couldn’t prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Tigers lost the set 25-21 despite a solid performance on the attacking side. Tennessee State registered a .467 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set loss. After going down 3-0 to start the set, the Tigers cut the lead to 6-5 on the strength of two kills by Santana-Rodriguez. With the Lions up 11-10, Lindenwood went on a 7-0 run to stretch the lead to 18-10. TSU’s 8-1 made the score 19-18. The Lions scored the following two points to force a Tiger time-out. When play resumed, Storm Whites’s two kills cut the deficit to 20-19. Lindenwood finished the set, scoring five of the following seven points.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday at 2 p.m. when the Tigers honor their seniors.
